I just got back from visiting my mom in Texas. I go down every year. I always forget the true poverty of this area. Most people would look around and just complain about what a run down town it is. I don't see it that way. If you just know how to look- you can see true beauty. Not only in things but the people.
It is a melting pot of people- A mostly Hispanic community & with what the locals call "The winter Texans".
They are made up of Canandians, Northorners, Etc... ALL of them good people. Families who have nothing, but will give you the shirts off their back to help a guy out. We could all learn a valuable lesson from the poor, for in truth, they are the richest of us all. Let me show you some of the beauty I saw.

Let's start with down town. This was the old hotel, once apon a time. |
The garden. |
True craftsmanship. |
The fountain at the old hotel. |
A cute sign. |
Downtown is many sculptures. This was on top of a 10 foot high ivy covered wall. |
Him too. |
I loved these doors. |
Now on to the murals around town. Someone has a lot of talent here. |
This was to help promote a storage place that had A/C. Neat huh... |
Now on to Harlingen. |
Kinda like our Route 66. |
I thought this one was breath taking. Her eye's are amazing. |
Who is this man? |
Another treasure. |
Local high school mascot. |
Check out those eye's. |
The other mascot. |
You tell me. |
Another old time street scene.
Before you judge next time you go somewhere, REALLY look around you. I did.
